♦Tesuro KOMAI (1920 - 1976), known as the "Copperplate printing poet", is person of cultural merit, who was awarded the prize in the first São Paulo Art Biennial after the war, making Japan known to the world for its printing quality, along with Shikou MUNAKATA. He continued to lead the world of modern printing and brought up many talents. He died young at the age of 56, whilst working as a porfessor at Tokyo University of the Arts. His first solo exhibition was held at the Shiseido Gallery, Ginza in 1953. This catalog has been published by Shiseido as a memorial of a 15th year after KOMAI's death. The catalog includes beautiful images from the retrospective exhibition. Different from other catalogs, it emphasizes KOMAI's side as a colorist, featuring works such as monotypes and color copperplate prints.
