Silkscreen Collection "Shiro Kuramata Cahier"

We are publishing silkscreen collection "Shiro Kuramata Cahier", made from sketches by KURAMATA Shiro, supervised by Mrs. KURAMATA Mieko and Mr. UYEDA Makoto.
There are 60 works split in 6 volumes. In 2020 we will release Vol.1 and Vol.2. From then on, we will release Vol.3 in 2021, Vol.4 in 2022, Vol.5 in 2023 and Vol.6 in 2024.
2 works are on display now, remaining 18 works will be added to the artist's page towards end of March.

■Shiro KURAMATA
Born 1934 in Hongo, Tokyo (Present Honkomagome, Bunkyo-ku). Entered Showa Primary School in 1941. Due to WWII, fled to Shizuoka and Kanagawa in 1944. Graduated Kurogane Primary School, Kanagawa and returned to Tokyo in 1944. Graduated 9th Bunkyo-ku Secondary School in 1948, Graduated from Department of wood work, Tokyo Metropolitan KOGEI High School in 1953. Entered Teikokukizaikagukojo in 1954. Graduated from Department of living design at Kuwasawa Design Research Center in 1956. Entered advertising section at Sanai in 1957. Became a temporary employee at Matsuya Interior Design office in 1964.
Established Kuramata Design Office in 1965. Participated in Jpan Expo '70 in 1970. Invited to "Memphis" by Ettore Sottsass in 1981. Starting from a showcase design, display design, interior, architectual planning to venue structuring in the early 60s, KURAMATA moved onto designing furnitures, accessories and in-depth interior designing with unique expressions after establishing his own studio. From the mid 70s, every architectual plans, furnitures, accessories to even a development of materials were deeply influenced by the "World of KURAMATA Shiro". Passed away on 1st of February 1991.
Prized the 18th Mainichi design Award in 1972, the 2nd Japan Cultural design Award in 1981, Awarded the French Order of Culture in 1990. Published books are "Works of Kuramata Shiro" (Kashima Publishing, 1976), "Shiro Kuramata 1967-1987" (Parco Publishing, 1988), "Undeveloped Scene" (Sumai Library Publishing, 1991. KURAMATA passed away after the text of this book was press proofed. It is the only memoir written by KURAMATA). Since his death, there has been countless publication of books, magazines, projects and exhibitions. Examples are "World of Shiro Kuramata" exhibition and its catalogue, the first exhibition since his death, held at Hara Musuem in 1996, and "SHIRO KURAMATA and ETTORE SOTTSASS" exhibition and its catalogue, held at 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT in 2011. Record of lectures held in this exhibition were printed in 2012 as "Shiro Kuramata Dokuhon".
