Michiko MATSUMOTO

Photographer, born in Shizuoka Prefecture. Matsumoto graduated from Hosei University. Since the 1980s, Matsumoto’s work centers on portraits of leading artists and dancers, many of whom Matsumoto visits in New York or Paris, or other places around the world. She participated in numerous national and international exhibitions, and major collections in and outside of Japan hold her photographs.

Publications include “Niki de Saint Phalle” (Parco Publishing), “Portraits of Female Artists” (Kawade Shobo Shinsha) and “Dancers: Portraits of Eros” (Kodansha). In recent years, Matsumoto became active as an essayist as well, publishing the well-received essay anthology “Perfect Rose Weather” (Tankosha).
