Louise NEVELSON, the representative female sculptor of the United States, was born in Perislav, Poltava Governorate, Russian Empire (present-day Ukraine), and emigrated with her family to the United States in 1902. During 1950s she established her unique style of wooden box sculptures, mainly painted in black. Since then for over 20 years, she continued to produce works in a form of black boxes and increasing trashes, exhibiting them in exhibitions across the globe as well as displaying them as a public art.
