Takao ONO Collection
March 7 Tues. - March 25 Sat. 2017
GALLERY CLOSED ON SUNDAY and MONDAY.

Iwate-born Takao ONO crossed to Italy in 1971. Upon graduating from the National Roman Restoration Laboratory Department of Painting, he traveled across Italy between 1977-1985 restoring church murals and museum inventory, and learned classical techniques through his direct contact with masters such as Giotto and Titian. ONO held his first solo exhibition in 1976 at a contemporary art gallery in Ginza. Later, he exhibited works in Shiseido Gallery's "Tsubakikai-ten". ONO's unshakeable spirit in his tempera technique makes him "rival to the Renaissance painters of 500 years ago". In 2008 the Ikeda 20th Century Art Museum held an ONO retrospective. This exhibition will display approximately 15 works by Takao ONO encompassing his early pieces from the 1970s to those more recent from the 2000s in mediums including oil, tempera, and drawing.
