Silver gelatin photography holds a distinct charm that digital images do not have. The techniques and materials that have survived more than a century do so for good reason. While new technologies often replace the old, each brings its own strengths. The new offers convenience, while the old carries the enduring appeal of tradition and craftsmanship refined over generations.
Since 2009, Tokino Wasuremono has been presenting a series of exhibitions titled ” Charm of Gelatin Silver Prints “, aiming to bring wider recognition to the beauty of works created through traditional analog techniques. For this ninth edition of the series, we are pleased to present silver gelatin prints by ten photographers, including Katsuji FUKUDA (1899–1991), Robert DOISNEAU (1912‐1994), Syoji UEDA (1913‐2000, Bob WILLOUGHBY (1927‐2009), Ikko NARAHARA (1931‐2020), Eikoh HOSOE (1933‐2024), Akihiko HIRASHIMA (b.1946), Tsunehiko MOMOSE (b. 1947), Akiko OOTAKE (b.1950).
