In June, we held the second exhibition of “SHIOMI Mieko × FLUXUS from the SHIOMI collection”
featuring new works and installations by Mieko Shiomi, along with a selection of Fluxus artworks and archival materials she has collected over many years.
While studying in the Department of Musicology at Tokyo University of the Arts, Mieko Shiomi co-founded the“Group Ongaku” with Takehisa Kosugi and others.
In 1964, she moved to New York and joined Fluxus, the avant-garde art movement initiated by George Maciunas that sought to break away from conventional forms of artistic expression.
Fluxus emerged in 1962 with the spirit of discovering “art” within the everyday life.
It developed into a global movement involving numerous artists all over the world including Ay-O, Jonas Mekas, Nam June Paik, and John Cage.
Japanese female artists such as Mieko Shiomi, Yoko Ono, Shigeko Kubota, and Haruko Saito also played key roles.
After returning to Japan, Shiomi has taken part in Fluxus events abroad, as well as has been still continuing to work across genres, including performance, composition of musical works, and visual poetry.
We are pleased to announce the publication of a collection of works,  “SHIOMI Mieko × FLUXUS from the SHIOMI collection”, featuring all works from the exhibition held in last June.
To commemorate its release, we are holding a special exhibition.
Special Edition, Limited Edition A, and Limited Edition B will also be released.
During the exhibition period, we are planning to hold a “participatory Fluxus performance” (conditions for participation apply).
