We are pleased to announce a two-person exhibition featuring Western-style painter Matsumoto Shunsuke and sculptor Funakoshi Yasutake.
Born in 1912, the two artists were classmates at Morioka Prefectural Junior High School (now Morioka Daiichi High School).
They were both members of the school’s art club, where they formed a lifelong friendship.
Although their careers later took different paths, they reunited for two joint exhibitions at the Kawatoku Gallery in Morioka in 1941 and 1945.
Today, the Iwate Museum of Art houses permanent exhibition rooms dedicated to both artists.
This exhibition presents a selection of Matsumoto Shunsuke’s drawings together with Funakoshi Yasutake’s sculptures and prints.
