Since 2010, the Tricolore Exhibition series have featured three artists selected by Toki-no-Wasuremono.
The sixth edition of this exhibition features works by female artists FUJIE Tami, TANIKAWA Kiriko and TSURI Mitsuho.
Printmaker FUJIE Tami will present not only her prints, but also large-scale oil paintings created with her original techniques and tile works known as “Warie”.
TANIKAWA Kiriko’s oil paintings meticulously depict gravel and ground surfaces, often featuring objects like high heels and bras.
Using the hand-building technique, ceramist Mitsuho Tsuri creates objects that look as if they were knitted.
We invite you to explore the distinct and unique creations of the three artists.
■FUJIE Tami
Born in Toyama Prefecture. While attending Meiji University Department of Literature, she studied lithograph under the printer Onaya Kanzaemon. She received the newcomer’s award at the 43rd Japan Print Association Exhibition, and in the same year held her first solo exhibition at Shirakaba Gallery. From 1978 she worked with her hometown, Toyama, as her base. Although she began with a realistic style, from the latter half of the 1970s, she began to use a process where she transferred drawings on film to become a zinc lithograph, creating abstract works with a powerful sense of speed.
Along with lithographs, she also creates monotypes from ink and paint transferred from film to paper. She has held solo exhibitions at Matsumura Gallery and Gallery Te. She has had her works in exhibitions such as the 12th Japan International Art Exhibition in 1978, “81 Art of Toyama” in 1981, and “Toyama Edition – Ecchu Hanga” in 2000.
