Kouichi TANIKAWA

Artist and art critic. Born in Tokyo in 1938. Decided to become an artist in the eighth grade. Since then, he has independently made art while working in other various fields. Became active as a critic in 1968. Moved to Izu Kogen in 1988. In Izu Kogen, began to create works heading towards “In praise of the sun”, with motifs of the sea, forests, and birds. He also put into practice his artistic ideas with the establishment of the Izu Kogen Art Festival, which has now become a cultural event that has continued over 20 years, with 50,000 visitors and participants per fair. Passed away in March, 2024, age 86.
