The 20th century was the age of video. Beginning with the photograph, film and television expanded our world, delivering mankind to an age where information is visible to the eye.

In terms of photography, it was the age of the gelatin silver print. Photographers made great use of what was a cutting edge method at the time. But as we entered the current century, analogue photography met its fate at the hands of the digital camera.

In order to spread appreciation of the fascinating analogue works, Watanuki Ltd. has been holding the Charm of Gelatin Silver Prints exhibition series since 2009.

For the exhibition's 7th iteration, we will show portraits taken by 8 photographers of great figures of the 20th century (PICASSO, Andre BRETON, Audrey HEPBURN, Andy WARHOL, Constantin BRANCUSI, MISHIMA Yukio, Isamu NOGUCHI, KUROSAWA Akira, and others).

Exhibited artists: Man Ray, Bob WILLOUGHBY, Robert DOISNEAU, Edward STEICHEN, KANESAKA Kenji, HOSOE Eikoh, ANZAI Shigeo, HIRASHIMA Akihiko
